DESCRIPTION:Saturday October 16 “Packards East”\nWill Be visiting\nInfoAge Science and History Museums\nStep back in time and stroll around the campus and\nenjoy viewing these examples of rolling history.\n1:00 PM- 5:00 PM \n(Weather Permitting) \n* Packard built extraordinary automobiles from 1899 to 1958\n* Mr Packard built the 1st one on a challenge to build a better car than those available.\n* Later when asked why someone should buy one\, he said “Ask The Man Who Owns One!”\n* Early Packards built in Ohio\, and then later in a revolutionary plant in Detroit.\n* 1903\, Packard “Old Pacific” won the race to cross the country in 61 days.\n* Many Packard innovations\, including the 1st steering wheel\, V12 engine.\n* Packard created “Gray Wolf” race car in 1903. Raced Indy 500 in 1915.\n* Packard created the 1st Liberty engine in just 5 days for the U.S. Army Air Force.\n* Packard cars were the quality leader over Cadillac\, Lincoln and Chrysler.\n* Packard introduced moderate price cars in the 30’s and tripled their sales.\n* During WWII\, Packard converted 100% to produce Merlin aircraft engines.\n* Packard engines powered Navy PT boats\, and built military trucks for the army.\n* Packard fought hard to regain prestige after the war\, but competition was too strong. \n
