Camp Evans and Transistors.... Click here to go back to INFOAGE home page

What does Camp Evans have to do with the application of the Bells Labs invention the transistor?  Plenty...  You can read the story in this book 'Crystal Fire'  available in book stores today.  Dr. Zahl was in the thick of the funding and application of transistors for Signal Corps communications and space exploration work.

To quote another source:
" The activities of the military services, specifically the Army Signal Corps, during the 1940s and throughput the 1950s had several notable effects on the emerging transistor technology."
" The Army Signal Corps not only underwrote the fundamental development of this technology, but also, as soon as it was released to industry, expedited the translation of prototypes into manufacturing processes and devices by strongly supporting engineering development."
