Architectural Feature: Nightvision Laboratory Interior; sections A and B
 Date: 1942; 1982

The 60-foot by 120-foot interior of Sections A and B of 9010 still have the basic floor plan as they did during WWII.  The interior doors and door frames have been replaced during partial renovations for nightvision work.  The original WWII appearance has been partially lost due to the 1982 modifications (Photo No. 41).  As a modern laboratory, telephone and computer network connections were added, including many telephone panels (Photo No. 42).  Section A is in use by Fort Monmouth BRAC personnel.  The carpets have not been removed, all painted surfaces are in excellent condition and the windows are not boarded up.  This section is an example of the conditions of all the buildings before BRAC contractors cut the electric feeder cables during the sewer removal, leaving the buildings without heat or electric for two winters.

Proposed work

During Phase II, adaptively modify the interior to support science-history education mission.  Twelve partition walls can be removed to create nine large flexible spaces (see Drawing 9010 A/B Existing Conditions and Proposed Changes).  These spaces can serve as classrooms, laboratories, or exhibit areas.  Cover any unused outlets and breaker panels with plexi-glass for safety.  Add exit signs and fire alarms as per current fire code.
