Architectural Feature: WWII Blackout Panel
 Date: 1942

Inside of the basement is the WWII era air-raid blackout electric cut-off panel (Photo No. 25).  It is in good condition and gives graphic testimony to the fear of the possibility of Nazi air or sea attacks upon the coastal USA during WWII.  Camp Evans Signal Laboratory Memo No. CSEL-95 "Air-Raid Warning Instructions" on file at the National Archives specify black-out usage conditions.
