The space that was the original Marconi Hotel lounge is now divided into a conference room and two offices (See Drawing - 9001 Existing Floor Plan - First Floor). The new wall dividing the lounge was added in 1941 and may have been constructed of 'Natco' red clay hollow blocks salvaged during removal of the fireproof closets and private bathroom partitions. The exterior south wall shows moisture damage from the effects of a missing down spout (Photo No. 30).

Proposed Work
During Phase III, remove wall added during renovation to create a conference
room the size of the original lounge; replace electrical lighting fixtures
with copies of original brass fixtures. The removal of wall will
allow repair of moisture damaged wall caused by missing down spout on exterior
lounge wall. If examination shows only plaster damage, replace or
repair moisture damaged wire lath, and apply new plaster. The NPS
publication "Moisture Problems in Historic Masonry Wall - Diagnosis and
Treatment" by Baird M. Smith will be consulted for guidance.
