Architectural Feature: Fireplaces
 Date: 1914, 1941

The Marconi Hotel has two brick fireplaces, one in the foyer (Photo No. 28) and the other in the lounge (Photo No. 29).  Both have been sealed with masonry across the fireplace opening.  Both have solid gray slate mantels.  The foyer fireplace has been painted a shade of red, and it contained a bronze plaque commemorating the Marconi Wireless Corporation of America construction of the building.  Examination of the roof (Photo No. 108) shows the chimneys for both fireplaces were removed at the roof-line and the roof repaired with new tiles.

Photos: 28, 29 and 108.

Proposed Work

During Phase III: Clean fireplaces; remove paint from foyer fireplace only if original brick will not be damaged.  Replace bronze plaque with original, currently in safekeeping.
