Architectural Feature: Exterior Stairs
Date: 1914, 1941
The original Marconi Hotel exterior stairs have seen little use since the security fence was put in place. There are three stairs along the front elevation, one on the west and one on the rear. Of the five stairs that lead to the piazza, only the west rear has seen regular use. Each stair is constructed of brick with brick rails capped with concrete (Photo No. 13). Currently, there is moss growing on the brick and considerable debris has accumulated. There is also a secondary security fence in front of the front center stairs (Photo No. 14). (Also see Drawing - 9001 Front/Rear Elevations)
Photos: 13 and 14.
Proposed Work
Clean stairs of moss and debris; repoint brick with mortar of similar
color and concrete content. All work will follow guidance in "Preservation
Brief 2: Repointing Mortar Joints in Historic Masonry Buildings".
Remove secondary security fence in front of center door during Phase III.
