The exterior masonry is of dark red brick laid in Flemish bond with surrounds in stretchers and upper corner blocks formed by four headers around windows (Photo No. 19). The brickwork has concrete accents such as window sills, column caps and piazza railings. A few of the concrete window sills have deteriorated and need repair. The brickwork joints were repointed by the Army in the 1980's with high content concrete material (Photo No. 17). The original masonry joints were black to contrast with the dark red brick and red imperial tiles. The new joints are rounded and of lighter color.

Proposed Work
During Phase III repair deteriorated sills; examine brickwork periodically
for expansion and contraction related problems caused by new mortar.
Any repointing will follow guidance in "Preservation Brief 2: Repointing
Mortar Joints in Historic Masonry Buildings".
