The perimeter security fence is an integral feature of the character of Camp Evans. It immediately creates the impression associated with a top-secret radar research facility. It has old style barbed wire along the top and security warning signs. The fence secures the Historic District south of Marconi Road. The ten-foot high chain-link fence runs along the east boundary of the District behind residents’ yards (Photo No. 5). It turns north at Marconi Road (Photo No. 6), continues in front of the Marconi Hotel (Photo No. 7), turns south at the Gate 1 parking lot and is attached to the sentry headquarters 9093 (Photo Nos. 4 and 8). Building 9093 controls access through Gate 1 (Photo No. 9) where the fence continues along the parking lot to Monmouth Boulevard (Photo No. 10). The fence runs along the west boundary of the District, Monmouth Boulevard (Photo No. 11), to Gate 2 (Photo No. 12). From here, the fence continues beyond the District boundry. The condition of the fence is generally good except certain spots where holes have been cut to gain entrance.

Proposed Work
Repair breaches in the fence during Phase I. To maintain the character
of the top-secret radar facility and to provide for visitors a safe family
environment, the security fence will be maintained in place along Marconi
road, Monmouth Boulevard and east side of District. The south boundry
of the District along Fourth Street has no security fence but additional
fencing will be installed to maintain the character and look of the research
facility. This will be a Phase II activity.
