Architectural Feature: Interior
 Date: 1942; 1980

The interiors of two of the three-firewall sections of 9032 have changed little since WWII.  The east section (Photo No. 76) and center section (Photo No. 77) have a center hall with offices to either side.  The west section was remodeled into a large room (Photo No. 78) which takes up most of the section.  At the end of the room closest to the center section is a single office on the south side, a short center hall and three offices on the north side.  One office contains a large central air-conditioning air-handler for this section.  An enclosed hallway with a ramp connects 9032 to the Marconi Hotel (Photo No. 79).

Proposed work

The technical library, Section D, can be used as is and only requires new floor covering.  This will be done immediately during Phase I.  The section will be used as a concept center for fund raising activities.  The intended future use of the former library section is to house the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame museum and collection.  This collection of radio memorabilia and recordings of 25,000 broadcasts is currently in storage here.  Temporary humidity control is in place.  The next two sections, B and C, interiors will be remodeled into exhibit space with restroom facilities during Phase V (see Drawings 9032B/C Existing Conditions and Proposed Changes).  These sections will hold computer technology and telephone technology exhibits.  One example is Infoage’s Grabbe Computer Packaging Collection of 7,000 artifacts and 45,000 photographs in storage in Harrisburg, Pa.  The collection was appraised in 1999 at a value of $372,000 and represents 50 years of the history of computer development.  The IEEE History Center and Prismark Partners have sponsored Infoage’s acquisition of this collection for preservation and interpretation at Camp Evans.  A professional archivist will be consulted to establish methods to best care for the collections.  The last section of 9032, Section A, will be opened up into a large space similar to Section D.  This can be accomplished by removing the interior non-load bearing partitions (see Drawing 9032A Existing Conditions and Proposed Changes).   Initially this space can be used as flexible space.  Later potential uses are as the book/gift store or a food concession location.
