Architectural Feature: 9030 Heating Oil Plant
Date: 1942
This masonry structure (Photo No. 65) is rectangular and houses two boilers to heat the firehouse (9031) and building 9029. The boilers are at basement level. The boiler pipes and auxiliary equipment take up the space from basement floor to the ceiling. An exterior stairwell allows access to basement level metal doors. A square brick chimney extends from the west side for a height of over two stories.
Proposed work
During Phase I, service oil/gas boilers and evaluate the possibility
and feasibility of eliminating the central oil fired boilers. The
central system would be replaced by individuals systems in 9029 and 9031.
The conversion would take place when funds allowed. The heating plants
could then be used for tall exhibits or other special exhibits.
