Architectural Feature: Interior; Metal Shop; section B
 Date: 1942

The 60-foot by 120-foot Section 9011B was the metal shop of the first constructed 'H' building.  Except for two offices in the north west corner and a large wire metal storage crib (Photo No. 52) in the south west corner the building is primarily 60' by 100' open space.  The room has pairs of wooden 6" by 6" support poles every 20'.  The south wall has a large sliding door and the north wall has a single door leading to 9098.  The tan vinyl tile floor has electrical outlets in the middle of the floor near the rusted outlines where metalworking machines once stood (Photo No. 53).  The north east wall has a large bank of black electrical breaker panels.

Proposed work

Section 9011 B can be used nearly as is. The offices and metal crib will be kept as is. During Phase III, to provide space for science-history exhibits and center functions, the space will be updated.  The floor electrical outlets will be removed for safety.  The electrical breaker panel will be left in place and secured behind Plexiglas.   The vinyl floor tiles will be replaced with carpet tiles.  The ceiling florescent lights will be upgraded.
