The
National Broadcaster's Hall of Fame, which is based at the InfoAge
Science
& History Learning Center at
Camp Evans in Wall,
recently inducted four new
members Celeste Holm, Jane Powell, Margaret Whiting and Andy Williams at their 30th Anniversary Induction
ceremony. Infoage
Director Fred Carl, who attended
the Sept.
29 event, described it as a pleasant luncheon where "the stars
[who
attended] seemed flattered." Ms. Holm
and Ms. Whiting attended the event, while Mr. Williams had "sent a DVD acknowledging his induction and
congratulating the others," said Mr. Carl. Ms. Powell was unable to
attend
the event. While other induction ceremonies
have been held in Hollywood and
New York City in the past, this one was held at the
Hall
of Fame itself as the center is
currently
being "revamped," Mr. Carl said. "We
may have another induction in the spring and the fall," Mr. Carl
stated. The
National Broadcaster's Hall of Fame was originally located in Freehold,
but
moved to Los Angeles after many
years. The
center came back to New Jersey
in 2001 and
found a home at InfoAge.
Ms. Powell
was a radio performer from the time she was a child and made her film debut at 15 in "Song of the Open Road" in
1944. She went on to work in other movies, Broadway,
television and concerts.
Ms. Whiting has recorded over 500 songs and
enjoyed 12 Gold Records. She has also starred
on a number of Broadway productions. The National Broadcaster's Hall of Fame is open Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum
encompass 48,000 broadcasts as well as a collection of artifacts,
memorabilia
and exhibits, according to Mr. Carl. |
